Mr. Jack Evans
Councilmember, Ward 2
Council of the District of Columbia
Washington, DC 20001
Dear Mr. Evans:
In response to your letter of June 22, 2000 [sic, 2001] requesting information
on the Boy Scouts of America in our school, [sic] the
following describes their involvement with the District of Columbia Public
Schools:
- Currently the Boys [sic] Scouts of American [sic] have programs at Park View
Elementary School, Bunker Hill Elementary School, Prospect Educational Center
and the Sharpe Health School.
- Recruitment programs for the Boys [sic] Scouts occurs in many of our schools,
i.e., Meyer Elementary School, West Elementary School, Ross Elementary School,
LaSalle Elementary School.
- Sponsorship of the Boy Scout program is not something with which we are
familiar. Specifically, Banneker Senior High School nor Malcolm X Elementary
School have a relationship with the Boys [sic] Scouts.
- Charter schools do not come under my authority. There are two chartering
boards that can answer your concern. Information on them can be secured at
442-4289.
I trust that this information is helpful to you. If there is a need for further
information, please contact my office.
Respectfully:
Paul L. Vance
Superintendent
