GLAA Plans 19th Annual Wreath Laying

At approximately 6:05 p.m. on Memorial Day (Monday, May 25, 1998), the Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance of Washington, DC will conduct its nineteenth annual wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery. U.S. Army veteran and GLAA secretary Craig Howell will lead a small group in placing a wreath at the Tomb in memory of all who have died in the military service of the United States, including gay men and lesbians. Members of the public are welcome to attend this solemn ceremony.

The ceremony has been held every year since 1980, when GLAA co-founder Franklin E. Kameny won the right for the Gay Activists Alliance of Washington, DC (as the group was then known) to conduct the ceremony under its own name. Dr. Kameny will be unable to participate in this year's ceremony due to commitments in California.
